A journey around Lisbon’s suburbs through the lives of a handful of musicians establishing their place to exist in a city of complex identity struggles. Different generations and backgrounds meet, Angola to Sao Tome, Cabo Verde and Guine Bissau represented by old musicians and young producers.
Rita Maia (Portugal) is a London-based DJ and curator. DJ at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM with a radio show, a club night set at Migrant Sounds, and a record bag travelling across the world in an incessant search for new music.
Vasco Viana (1980, Portugal) studied cinematography, sound and image at E.T.I.C. (Escola Técnica de Imagem e Comunicação, Lisboa) and at E.S.A.D. (Escola Superior de Artes e Design, Caldas da Rainha). He worked as an assistant cinematographer in dozens of short and long fiction films as well as in marketing projects and adverts. He gained notoriety as Director of Photography thanks to his work on ARENA (2009), a short fiction film by João Salaviza that won the Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Festival in 2009.
